The new film by Marco Bellocchio, an acclaimed director who participated in the Venice Film Festival competition, is a mosaic of tales, some closely, and some loosely connected to Eluana Englaro and her story. She has been in a coma for seventeen years, and she remains alive thanks to machines. The film follows a senator deciding whether to vote for a bill that conflicts with his conscience; his daughter, Maria, demonstrating against euthanasia in front of the hospital where Eluana is kept; and Roberto, who captures Maria's heart but who defends the opposite barricade. Depicting the actress’s last six days, the picture explores the meaning and essence of life. The director poses the question of whether a person has the right to decide about the life and death of their loved ones. (Febiofest)
