Vikings (2013)

Englisch The theme of Viking raids is interesting to me. I don't know much about them beyond the basics and the series made me do some digging to get some context. The writers created the right mixture of intrigue, fighting, and insights into the off-season activities of the Norsemen to keep me hooked. Interestingly, the Viking who stands out the most for me in the series is the 168cm tall Lagertha. Until the end of the third season, I was fully satisfied, but the fourth season was a bit disappointing due to the constant visions and hallucinations that needlessly fragmented the plot. I can only hope that the fifth season will bring it up to 5 stars again. ()

Season 1 (2013) (S01)

Englisch The first season was a delight. A great mixture of intrigue, raw carnage, and a very interesting cast, without unnecessary tear-jerking scenes. I was totally satisfied. ()

Initiationsriten (2013) (S01E01)

Englisch Well-crafted introduction to the story and introduction to the characters. I was never bored throughout, something was always happening, and it became clear that Lagertha would likely be the main object of interest for all the present Scandinavians. Well, no wonder, Kathryn Winnick did a good job with her parents. ()

Der Zorn der Wikinger (2013) (S01E02)

Englisch The second episode pleased me just as much as the first one, this time something was happening all the time, I enjoyed myself already during the recruitment of the crew, the voyage to the west was not boring either, the more action-packed scenes in Northumbria succeeded, and the looting and burning of the monastery warmed my pagan soul. ()

Enteignet (2013) (S01E03)

Englisch I gave the third episode five stars, even though I hesitated whether I should lean towards four stars again. The creators definitely score with one of my favorite themes, and furthermore, it never ceases to amaze me how Boss constantly challenges his faithful sheep, but I really enjoy it. Amen. ()

Der Prozess (2013) (S01E04)

Englisch In this case, I did not hesitate with the evaluation. The occupation of the city was extremely funny, even though everyone knew about the arrival of the Northerners, they reacted better than Pavlov's dogs to the ringing:-) But I also enjoyed the events after returning to Kattegat, the intrigues and cunningness, that I can appreciate. The action was again at a decent level. ()

Der Überfall (2013) (S01E05)

Englisch The fifth episode brought the largest amount of action scenes so far, which the creators succeeded in very well. However, I also enjoyed the events in Kattegat, where the lack of action was richly compensated for by intrigues. To not just praise, the meeting on the lake between Ragnar and his family in a drifting boat was damn well timed, and even though Jarl Haraldson's character is a contribution to the story, Gabriel Byrne appears somewhat tired to me. ()

Das Begräbnis (2013) (S01E06)

Englisch The creators presented me with a well-crafted episode once again, Vikings is still managing to entertain me well, I don't get bored even in moments when the plot lacks excessive action, and that's only good. It was interesting to see how many changes the outcome of a single battle brought. And the award for the most surprised character goes to Jarl Bjarni:-) ()

Ein Vermögen (2013) (S01E07)

Englisch I do have some reservations about the seventh episode, but I will put them aside because I got a good dose of quality action. God once again shit on his flock, as is his custom, and I learned that when it comes to fighting, it's better to fight than to pray. ()

Das Opfer (2013) (S01E08)

Englisch Exactly this is what I wrote about in previous comments, if the Vikings were only about action for me, I would now hesitantly give two stars, but the series is not so straightforward, so the eighth episode brought a certain Nordic Woodstock, with everything that belongs to it, and as a bonus, I got some brutal killings. Considering that I hate any religion, I warmly welcomed this enlightenment. ()

Veränderungen (2013) (S01E09)

Englisch I completely agree with Tumbik, this was really the most boring episode, actually the first one where I felt boredom at all. It wouldn't be so terrible, there was intrigue, obviously preparing for the second season, but the creators could have spared themselves or shortened the endless wandering through the forest with Queen Scooter. ()

Season 2 (2014) (S02)

Englisch What joy and happiness have befallen me! I liked the first season very much and worried that the second one would not reach the same quality. And I wasn’t wrong, it was even better! A well-blended mixture of intrigue and action. Keep them coming! ()

Bruderkrieg (2014) (S02E01)

Englisch The first episode of the second season started off brilliantly with an armed conflict and a rift between the brothers, so I was excited to see how it would end. However, during a monologue about a deceased daughter, the series was infiltrated by pathos, and an annoying family passage was the final straw. If I wanted to see something like that, I would watch Honza Musil on TV Barrandov. Despite these objections, I couldn't bring myself to give it a lower rating. ()

Invasion (2014) (S02E02)

Englisch Family turbulence was replaced by new intrigues in the second part, which clearly lead to another armed conflict, which pleased me. Additionally, Ragnar went on another sightseeing trip to the beauty and landmarks of England, so I can look forward to more episodes. That's why I give it 5 stars. ()

Verrat (2014) (S02E03)

Englisch The third episode definitely belonged to the action-packed ones, the robbery of Winchester was thrilling, and my favorite archery scene was not missing either. Borg's actions in Kattegat were predictable, but well-directed, so this time I have no major objections. I enjoyed it. ()

Auge um Auge (2014) (S02E04)

Englisch Yeah, yeah, give the Catholic some wood, nails, a hammer, and a suitable heretic, and you can be sure of the result of his work:-) Besides this typical expression of Christian love, what mainly caught my attention was the interaction between King Egbert and Ragnar. I have high hopes for Egbert; he will surely be an excellent schemer. ()

Antworten in Blut (2014) (S02E05)

Englisch The fifth episode was among the more action-packed ones, after many encounters there was some villainous activity and later on a legitimate fight. The creators clearly excel at action scenes, so I had no reason to lower my rating. Even the scenes that didn't have much action at the moment didn't bore me, and I enjoyed myself throughout the entire time. ()

Unverziehen (2014) (S02E06)

Englisch The sixth part brought me a certain paradox. I was actually excited about it, excellent atmosphere, escalating plot, intrigues and plans, and I was prepared to appreciate the effort of the creators with five stars, but... I deducted one star for only one reason - the character of Athelstan really got on my nerves this time and ruined my overall impression of this episode. ()

Blutadler (2014) (S02E07)

Englisch The seventh episode felt to me like it consisted of two parts. The first part was full of political decisions, intrigues, and the creation of a slightly paranoid atmosphere. The viewer doesn't know who to trust, and that's why I had to like it. The second part focused on Jarl Borg's fate, and even though I could handle a few sharper shots, it didn't disappoint me either. Since Lagertha has been my favorite character since the beginning of the series, I had to go all in. ()

Der Knochenlose (2014) (S02E08)

Englisch This time, I had a feeling that the creators were just dragging out the plot with this episode, nothing substantial actually happened, except for Horik's action at the end of the episode. I have to agree with 0verseer that the only highlight was Princess Kwenthrith. ()
