Skandinavien im Jahr 796: Ragnars Bruder Rollo hat sich von ihm abgewandt und steht ihm nun an der Seite von Jarl Borg gegenüber. Ragnar versucht ein letztes Mal, die Angelegenheit im Guten beizulegen, doch Rollo will nicht verhandeln und löst damit eine gnadenlose Schlacht mit seinem Bruder und dessen Gefolge aus. Zurück im Dorf konfrontiert Lagertha ihren Mann Ragnar mit Fragen nach Prinzessin Aslaug. Beide ahnen nicht, dass sie auf dem Weg nach Kattegat ist. (ProSieben)

An emotional whirlwind at the end of the first episode. Big dilemmas and family disruption in a way we are not used to, for example, in the similarly tuned GoT. So sensation accomplished, even without any vehement sword swinging.

The first episode of the second season started off brilliantly with an armed conflict and a rift between the brothers, so I was excited to see how it would end. However, during a monologue about a deceased daughter, the series was infiltrated by pathos, and an annoying family passage was the final straw. If I wanted to see something like that, I would watch Honza Musil on TV Barrandov. Despite these objections, I couldn't bring myself to give it a lower rating.
