Charles Duchemin, Restaurantkritiker und Herausgeber des "Guide Duchemin", ist der Schrecken aller Küchenchefs. Nicht der kleinste Makel entgeht dem miesepetrigen Gourmet, denn er hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, die französische Esskultur zu retten. So reist er mit seinem Sohn, der eigentlich viel lieber Zirkusclown werden möchte durch ganz Frankreich, um die Restaurants genau unter die Lupe zu nehmen. Sein Erzfeind Tricatel hingegen betreibt eine Kette von Fastfood-Restaurants, deren künstlich hergestellte Gerichte Charles natürlich ein ärgerlicher Dorn im Auge sind. Prompt fordert Tricatel den renommierten Kritiker heraus, sein Können in einer Talkshow unter Beweis zu stellen. Als er Charles schließlich eines seiner synthetischen Gerichte vorsetzt, das seine Geschmacksnerven zerstört, ist endgültig der Krieg zwischen den beiden ausgebrochen und Charles will seinem Intimfeind kräftig die Suppe versalzen... I haven't seen a comedy with de Funès for a long time, so I was quite glad that the next one was a comedy about food. Whenever there's food involved, the movie immediately entertains me much more. For example, "Love in a Curry" was greatly helped by Indian cuisine. There wasn't as much food in this one, but the combination of two great comedians made up for it. I had a great time. Plus, I only watch these movies in Czech, which adds another perk.

When I was still in school, I had a really good time with this comedy about tasting. Today, however, with time, it seems a bit outdated. Louis de Funès has certainly done better. (65%)

The Wing or The Thigh is a timeless classic within the comedy genre that I certainly never get tired of, and I like to watch it from time to time. Louis de Funés was a truly great comedian who created one of the most distinctive comic characters that won the hearts and admiration of many a viewer. The story is solidly constructed and the gags and sketches work well even after all these decades. One of the gems of French comedy that has aged as well as fine wine.
