Happy Christmas sieht anders aus. Es ist kurz vor Weihnachten, als Oscar (Kyrre Hellum) in einem seriösen Striplokal wieder zu Bewusstsein kommt. Blutend liegt er auf dem Boden und kämpft sich unter dem Körper einer unförmigen toten Frau hervor, von weiteren sieben Leichen umgeben und mit einem Gewehr in der Hand. Was soll Kommissar Solør (Henrik Mestad) bei diesem speziellen Anblick wohl denken? Er muss jedenfalls nicht lang überlegen, wen er dafür verantwortlich machen soll - Oscar aber denkt gar nicht daran, ein Geständnis abzulegen. Sondern erzhält Solør stattdessen seine Geschichte. Und die beginnt damit, dass die drei Ex-Knackis Thor (Mads Ousdal), Billy (Arthur Berning) und Tresko (Andreas Cappelen) irgendwo im Nirgendwo in einer Fabrik am Fließband stehen und Plastikweihnachtsbäume zusammenschrauben. Alle drei können nicht nur eine beeindruckende kriminelle Vergangenheit vorwerisen, jeder von ihnen ist auch ein Spieler. Natürlich glücklos und ohne jemals groß gewonnen zu haben. Bis - ja bis sie ihn, ihren Chef Oscar, dazu überreden, eine Tippgemeinschaft zu gründen. Und sie tatsächlich gemeinsam den Jackpot knacken und eine fette Summe einstreichen. Eine Summe, die sich allerdings unmöglich durch vier teilen lässt. Und genau da fängt der Spaß an... (NFP)

A hint of Nesbø’s absurd dark Headhunters - esque style humor shines through, but that’s about it. It’s one of those movies which are easier to talk about than to watch. What’s to blame is the adaptation, a huge amount of scenes are iconic on paper but the adaptation itself is weak and flavorless. And the only successfully executed thing is the “one to one" stolen from somewhere else. What’s most interesting about the end result is that in Headhunters, the main protagonist resembled a Norwegian Walken and here he resembles a Norwegian Buscemi. And the cop neighbor is reading Nesbø’s “Leopard" in the original language. Although I wouldn’t expect any less from a Norwegian.

I didn't enjoy it as much as Headhunters, but I enjoyed it, and that's what counts. The gradual unraveling of the story of sudden deaths in a small Norwegian town often made me laugh, and certainly not because of the above-average number of idiots. It was rather simple and not exactly original, but I wasn't bored, and it made me laugh, which is a basic requirement when it comes to a comedy.

I like the Nordic sense of humor, but I didn't have that much fun here. Considering that the whole thing feels like a Norwegian offshoot of Quentin Tarantino films, I'm honestly a bit disappointed. I liked the cast quite a bit, but the script could have been more polished - at least the final passage. (55%)
