When beautiful police detective Anna Manni follows the bloody trail of a sophisticated serial murderer/rapist through the streets of Italy, the young woman falls victim to the bizarre "Stendhal Syndrome" - a hallucinatory phenomenon which causes her to lose her mind and memory in the presence of powerful works of art. Trapped in this twilight realm, Anna plunges deeper and deeper into sexual psychosis, until she comes to know the killer's madness more intimately than she ever imagined. (Verleiher-Text)

Wo wäre giallo ohne Argento?! Der gelbe Subgenre hatte zwar schon lange das Beste hinter sich, sein Urvater konnte in den 90er Jahren jedoch nicht ohne ihn auskommen. Auch diesmal entstand zwar ein leicht überdurchschnittlicher Detektivfilm ohne markante Erotik oder Gewalt, aber er überzeugt durch Besetzung (angeführt von dem Psychopathen Kretschmann und Argentos Tochter mit der hässlichen blonden Perücke) und starke künstlerische Seite. Durch sie erinnert man sich daran, wie faszinierend die Uffizigalerie ist. Das kann ich selbst bestätigen...

There are violent scenes, which are well filmed, and Dario kept himself away and didn't expose his daughter completely for once. Kretschmann is sufficiently demonic, but the story simply doesn't work that well overall. As a glimpse into the inner workings of a crazy mind, it's good, but certainly not exceptional. As a film, it is then too inconsistent for me and the individual impressions are spread out over too long a duration.
