Er will nach Hollywood. Er kommt nur bis Moskau. Er wird Stalins Sterndeuter. Das war ein Hitler-Gag zu viel: Der Komiker und Parodist Hans Zeisig (Michael Bully Herbig) muss 1938 mit falschen Papieren aus Nazi-Berlin fliehen. Eigentlich träumt er von Hollywood, doch dann landet er in Moskau und gerät in das berüchtigte Exilantenhotel LUX. Es ist der Zufluchtsort kommunistischer Funktionäre aus aller Welt und insbesondere aus Deutschland. Der sowjetische Geheimdienst verwechselt Zeisig mit dem abtrünnigen Leibastrologen Adolf Hitlers. So gerät der unpolitische Entertainer zwischen die Fronten blutiger Intrigen in Stalins Machtapparat. Zu seiner Überraschung trifft Zeisig im LUX auch seinen früheren Bühnenpartner Siggi Meyer (Jürgen Vogel) und die niederländische Untergrundkämpferin Frida (Thekla Reuten) wieder, die beide fest an das Gute im Kommunismus glauben. Für die drei Freunde beginnt ein Abenteuer auf Leben und Tod. (Constantin Film)

Hotel Lux is a great movie and it proves that not only is German cinematography up and coming, but it does a great job of reflecting on times past, which is something I have seen in other German movies as well. Michael Herbig is a great actor and every time I see him, he immediately improves my mood. His actor character was really great and the plot itself provides an excellent comparison of a fascist and a communist. Apart from it being a very good comedy, it’s also a pretty interesting movie, which is definitely worth seeing because it will allow you to think about World War II from a different perspective.

A Jew, Hitler and Stalin all go into a bar... Or in this case, they come out of a show and show how it is with that German (non)sense of humor. And it fits nicely into the wave of German cinema through which the Germans have uncompromisingly dealt with its skeletons in the closet in recent years.
