The Orphan Killer is a tour de force murder flick that defies classification. It goes far beyond current trends in gore and breaks open a new suffering genre of horror. Marcus Miller is a serial murderer hellbent on teaching his estranged sister Audrey what it means to have family loyalty. His lessons are taught in massive doses of vulgar and unimaginable pain. Throughout her brutal torture we learn that Marcus is not the only Miller with Killer in the bloodline as Audrey proves to be a formidable adversary. (Verleiher-Text)

Good murders, great gore, a satisfactory looking killer, awful editing and the script is awful. It’s one of those films with individual scenes that are pretty decently executed, atmospheric and unsettling, but that as a whole doesn’t work too well. And again, I confirmed that hard music is not suitable for horror, at all. It might bring up the intensity, but fucks the atmosphere. A lullaby would be better.

Einen anspruchsvolleren Horror mit kleinem Budget von ihr zu verlangen, wäre naiv, aber eine engere Identifikation mit der Hauptfigur wäre nicht schlecht. Nichts davon passiert, also haben wir hier einen gewöhnlichen Slasher über einen Maskenmann, der die erste Hälfte wild seine Schwester jagt und dabei alle zufälligen Charaktere tötet, um sie dann in der zweiten Hälfte zu Tode zu quälen. Orphan Killer hat einen anständigen Start (überraschenderweise gibt es genug Gore und die Zahl der Opfer steigt exponentiell), aber dann stoppt es abrupt beim endlosen Geschrei der attraktiven Blondine. Gegen Rock-Metal habe ich nichts einzuwenden, aber die Filmemacher hätten Lieder mit auffälligeren Gitarrenriffs auswählen können, anstatt nur aufgesetzte, monotonen Explosionen. Es hat zum Beispiel in dem Thriller "Collector" hervorragend funktioniert.
