Die 13-jährige Bethany Hamilton ist Hoffnungsträgerin des professionellen Surfsports auf Hawaii. Als sie beim Training von einem Tigerhai attackiert wird, verliert sie ihren linken Arm. Zunächst unter Schock, will sie sich von dem traumatischen Erlebnis aber nicht unterkriegen lassen. Mit unbändigem Willen und unerschütterlichem Glauben verfolgt sie ihre vermeintlich geplatzten Zukunftsträume weiter. Einen Monat nach dem Unfall steht sie bereits wieder auf dem Surfbrett und startet ihr unglaubliches Comeback. (ORF)

I don't know if I was moved because it's based on a true story or because of the way it's presented. Either way, I have no doubt that AnnaSophia Robb is a great actress. I'm pleased beyond measure with the cinematography and the choice of supporting characters. It is supercharged by the surfing feats and the fantastic music that adds the perfect tone to every situation. Fortunately, the film does not succumb to melancholy. It oozes energy, competitiveness, and determination. In a way, it is also a great motivation. My compliments.
