Atlantic City, 1931: Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi) hängt Erinnerungen an den Beginn seiner kriminellen Karriere nach, wie er 1884 als Straßenjunge erstmals den Commodore (John Ellison Conlee) traf. Unterdessen beschäftigen ihn auch ganz aktuelle Probleme: In Kuba will er gemeinsam mit Sally Wheet (Patricia Arquette) einen Deal mit der Bacardi Corporation vorantreiben. In New York beginnt Lucky Luciano (Vincent Piazza) derweil einen kühnen Plan umzusetzen, dessen Auswirkungen auch Nucky auf Kuba zu spüren bekommt. (Sky Atlantic)

The first episode of the fifth season was so far the biggest disappointment for me. Unlike previous seasons, it lacked continuity with the previous plot, the jump was too big, whereas before even the smallest details of the destinies of peripheral characters were resolved, now Mr. Rothstein just disappears and hardly anyone mentions him, etc. Additionally, I was quite bored.
