Paul Muni was an incredible actor and he proves it fully in this film. He played Emile Zola perfectly, even though it wouldn't matter if this was based on real events or not. It is a very powerful statement about how prejudices are more important and how hatred towards certain people can turn into something that can be called a societal transformation. The power of words is unbelievable.
