Ashley decides to solve her arduous financial situation by entering the world of illegal immigration, and she attempts to smuggle a group of the Mexicans across the border. The circumstances of the unsuccessful crossing affect not only her, but also a little Mexican girl who she starts to feel responsible for. Their journey all over Mexico and the search for the mother of the strange girl remind Ashley of her own maternal failures.
