Meisterdieb Luther Whitney will sich endlich zur Ruhe setzen. Doch zuvor plant er noch seinen letzten großen Coup. Aber als er in der Villa des Multimillionärs Walter Sullivan einbricht, wird er Zeuge eines Mordes: Sullivans Ehefrau Christy wird im Streit mit ihrem Geliebten, dem US-Präsidenten Alan Richmond, getötet. Nun ist nicht nur das FBI hinter Luther her, um den unliebsamen Augenzeugen zu beseitigen, sondern auch noch die Polizei, die ihn des Mordes an Christy verdächtigt. (ATV2)

Gene Hackman as a cold-blooded president, Ed Harris as a charismatic detective, Clint Eastwood as an elusive professional thief, and Scott Glenn and Dennis Haysbert as elite secret service agents, brilliant casting, no doubt about it. The plot is alright, if we overlook certain simplifications of some facts and focus only on those names, because Eastwood as a director didn't take into account practically any supporting characters, and when he did, it didn't turn out well at all (the hired sniper). The action is minimal, however, Clint knows how to shoot suspenseful scenes – though there aren’t many – and the whole thing is carried out in a slightly unremarkable and almost TV-like style, the acting ensemble is so good that you won’t be constantly looking at your watch.
