In der Hauptrolle des paranioden Taxifahrers aus New York sehen wir den wieder einmal überzeugenden Mel Gibson, dessen bisherige gemeinsame Arbeiten mit dem Regisseur Richard Donner, Lethal Weapon 1-3, bisher immer recht erfolgreich waren. An ingeniously simple and simply ingenious source topic worth a million that really could have been made into something really good... Could have, but unfortunately wasn’t. This movie is further damaged by its length and the terrible ending where all of a sudden the movie begins taking itself seriously, but this ends up looking like a parody of itself. In any case, more than one good movie came out of collaboration between Donner and Gibson, and Conspiracy Theory is one of them. Despite saying that, this time the movie is merely good, but not outstanding.

I love conspiracy theory movies, and this is one of the better ones. Plus, there's the excellent Mel Gibson in the role of “scatterbrained" taxi driver, Jerry. Donner directs Conspiracy with a steady hand that will not leave you bored. And as a bonus, we have a brilliant scene where Jerry escapes from a building while strapped to a wheelchair. You just can't forget something like that.

Donner succeeded very well in blending genres. A little bit of decent psychology, several action-packed scenes, a few entertaining moments, and above all, excellent chemistry between the main stars. It's a difficult-to-classify hybrid, but its sense of originality and the psychopathic portrayal by Gibson are very good. It's definitely worth seeing, and nowadays it’s considered a classic. Along with Enemy of the State, an outstanding spy film, but compared to Tony Scott's film, it doesn't come across as nearly as hi-tech. Some people prefer one, others the other.

Mel Gibson und Julia Roberts haben mindestens eines gemeinsam: Fletchers Visionen ist mein Lieblingsfilm mit diesen beiden. Ein so perfekt miteinander spielendes Schauspielerpaar findet man nur selten. Fletchers Visionen ist eine makellose Mischung aus Comedy, Thriller, Action und Romantik, der es an nichts fehlt. Die solide Regieleistung Donners ist eine Delikatesse wie aus den achtziger Jahren, die Titelsequenz mit dem Taxi, das durch die Stadt fährt, erinnert an Scorseses Taxi Driver, Patrick Stewart ist ein schleimiges Ekel, die unvergessliche Szene der Wasserfolter macht mir permanent Angst, die "Flucht“ mit dem Rollstuhl wiederum unterhält irgendwie spitzenmäßig … Und zu alldem ist der Soundtrack der berste von Burwell überhaupt. Ich gebe fünf lupenreine hundertprozentige Sterne und hebe alle meine Daumen.
