Folge 1 - Mike Noonan konnte sich erfolgreich als Bestsellerautor etablieren. Seine Frau Jo hat großen Anteil an dieser Karriere. Als sie unvermittelt stirbt, fällt Noonan in ein tiefes Loch. Fortan bringt er kein Wort mehr aufs Papier und wird von Alpträumen verfolgt. Um endlich mit der Vergangenheit ins Reine zu kommen, beschließt er, ins gemeinsame Sommerhaus am See zurückzukehren. Tatsächlich löst der Tapetenwechsel alle Blockaden. Doch Mike wird den Eindruck nicht los, dass es in dem Haus spukt.
Folge 2 - Immer tiefer wird Mike Noonan in den Sorgerechtsstreit der Devores hineingezogen. Er war Zeuge, wie die junge Witwe Mattie Devore ihre Tochter Kyra beinahe vor ein Auto hätte laufen lassen. Ihr steinreicher Schwiegervater will ihr deshalb das Kind wegnehmen. Doch Noonan steht auf Matties Seite und bezahlt ihr einen eigenen Anwalt. Zugleich suchen ihn weiterhin wirre Träume heim, die auf ein schreckliches Geheimnis hindeuten - und Noonan hört wieder Botschaften aus dem Jenseits. (ORF)

Miserable. Garris’s direction is at best average. The screenplay lacks the best bits in the book and overall it doesn’t make sense. The first half basically says nothing, has no momentum and events just happen. No suspense, no expectations. The casting didn’t work. I like Brosnan, but he isn’t right for this and it’s not that he can’t cast off the Bond jacket. On the contrary, his Noonan is bland and there’s nothing worse than a bland main protagonist. The exaggerated dramatization of some scenes is almost comical. Surprisingly, the only decently made parts are the flashbacks, which seemed to me to be the weaker parts of the book. Oh, and the way they rammed in modern technology almost everywhere got on my nerves. An iPad playing an old black and white video... product placement or an attempt to be hip?

"Bag of Bones" is one of my favorite Stephen King novels, and while reading it, I thought to myself, what a jerk King is, because I would love to write something like that myself. I actually had a similar feeling only with "The Dark Tower". I liked the film adaptation, Pierce was a great choice. I had the feeling again, as if I was reading the novel. Considering it is a television series, it is not surprisingly boring during the scary moments. It is stretched out, yes, but not unbearably so.
