Englisch In the difficult times of creeping ideologisation, Martin Hollý, his crew and the top Slovak actors of the time came together and went to the beautiful Tatra Mountains to film a balladic story of three friends whose lives are interfered with by a femme fatale played by the charming Emilia Vašáryová. A film full of genuine emotions that never slip into kitsch, loyal friendship, love, jealousy, humour and tragedy. The camera seems to love the Tatra peaks and Liška's music adds the right emotional edge to the film. On a big widescreen with a restored print, it was downright gorgeous. ()

Englisch A tragic story about friendship between three friends and what happened when a woman came into their lives. A story that could have easily taken place in any setting, but in the appealing location of the High Tatras of Slovakia it has a special, majestic charm. But it isn’t really about mountain climbing and certainly isn’t a mountain climbing drama. Outstanding acting performances, beautiful camerawork and excellent music by Zdeněk Liška, and primarily a powerful experience. This is one of the best Slovak movies ever, and hasn’t lost its magic even 35 years on. ()

Englisch An excellent film with a great cast who give brilliant and extremely convincing performances. It’s set in the breathtaking High Tatra Mountains, so there’s something for the lovers of lyricism, too. Fortunately, there’s no melodrama. It's a beautiful film, I enjoyed it. ()

Englisch A very powerful drama about life, love, and the beautiful and harsh nature. Slovakia shows its most beautiful side here, which are the stunning mountains that will take your breath away in some shots and maybe even make you feel dizzy. Added to that is a story about beauty and jealousy, which is brilliantly played, almost minimally. ()
