Lesbian Vampire Killers

Eine gelungene Komödie im Stil vom unübertrefflichen Film Shaun Of The Dead. Diejenigen, denen der erwähnte Film nicht gefallen hat, werden wahrscheinlich auch in diesem Fall nicht zufrieden sein. Ich habe mich aber amüsiert und war froh, dass endlich wieder eine Parodie des Horrorgenres entstanden ist, die keine Tarantino- und Rodriguez-Elemente (Death Proof - Todsicher, Planet Terror) hat und die nicht voll von ekligen Dingen, überflüssig zur Schau gestellten nackten Teilen von Männer- und Frauenkörpern und doofen Figuren ist. Lesbian Vampire Killers ist sehr oft superwitzig (die erste Beseitigung mit der Axt, der Pfarrer und seine gemeinsamen Szenen mit Fletch). Der Film enthält keinen Fäkalien-Humor oder andere Arten vom ekligen Humor. Die Laufzeit ist angenehm, man langweilt sich nicht. Die Haupthelden sind sympathisch, ein Mädchen ist schöner als das andere… Die Regie ist einfallsreich und weiß, dass Timing kein Schimpfwort ist. Vier Sterne (und ein Stückchen vom fünften für die letzte Aufnahme). ___ PS: Die Musik von Debbie Wiseman ist besser als alles, was Danny Elfman seit Sleepy Hollow komponiert hat (es ist egal, dass sie sich dort ein bisschen inspirieren ließ). "The Killers of Lesbian Vampires" is a film that had the potential, but it couldn't utilize it even a bit, so it settled for attempting to be funny, attempting to be action-packed, attempting to be a little bit perverted. However, everything is just a little bit and none of it is brought to a point where one could truly speak of a meaningful film that offers something extra. Even the humor is not extra here." The title makes it seem like a good bit of stupidity and movie fans expect something twisted, so the initial expectations are low and the film's creators ultimately benefit from that. In the end, it really is stupid, but since the disappointment factor doesn't work here and the audience is tuned to the humor, they can forgive Claydon and his gang for many things. The film actually feels like there were bigger ambitions and the director probably wanted to make something similar to Zombieland or Dawn of the Dead, but he lacked the talent, a higher budget, quality actors, and ultimately even a screenplay. Especially the female part of the ensemble represents more suffering from an acting perspective, which, however, is compensated by their looks. In the end, it could have been quite a decent soft porn, if the crew wanted to and pushed in that direction a little more. The film obviously targets a teenage audience and perhaps they could add one more star to their reviews. On the other hand, those who consider themselves intellectuals can watch this at their own risk. Overall impression: 25%. (08.03.2011)

A film with such a title could be either first-rate grindhouse fun or a smart parody full of dry British humour, but alas… Lesbian Vampire Killers is a lot closer to silly teenage comedies where one of the funniest things is a sword with a phallic handle. I refuse to give a higher rating to a film like this on principle, not that this one deserves more than two stars anyway. (27.05.2009)
