Der letzte Schultag! Die Uhr tickt und die Sommerferien sind nur noch Minuten entfernt. Die East High Wildcats freuen sich auf drei Monate Sonne, Spaß und… Arbeit? Troy (Zac Efron) hat zusammen mit Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) und seinen Freunden einen Sommerjob im exklusiven Lava Springs Country Club bekommen. Doch Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) nutzt ihren Einfluss auf den Clubleiter und macht den Freunden das Leben schwer. Gleichzeitig nutzt sie die Verbindungen ihres Vaters und bringt Troy mit den wichtigsten Leuten der Stadt zusammen. Er erkennt schnell die Vorteile der Freundschaft mit Sharpays Familie und schon bald verbringt Troy mehr Zeit mit ihr als mit Gabriella und seinen Wildcat Jungs.
