“Ein Mann für alle Unfälle” kümmert sich nun äußerst amüsant um drei Freunde, die eben nicht zu den bestaussehenden, sportlichen oder angesagten Jungs gehören und trotzdem die Highschool überleben müssen. Gleich am ersten Tag auf dem Campus wird Ryan, Wade und Emmit bewusst, dass ihnen nur zwei Möglichkeiten bleiben: Entweder sie ergeben sich der Schreckensherrschaft der Schulrowdys oder sie brauchen dringend Schutz. Per Zeitungsanzeige suchen sie nach einem Bodyguard und entscheiden sich dann für den obdachlosen Glücksritter Drillbit Taylor und seine überaus seltsamen Hilfsmaßnahmen. Er zeigt ihnen Selbstverteidigungstechniken wie mexikanisches Judo, gibt ihnen orakelhafte Weisheiten mit auf den Weg und schleicht sich bewaffnet mit einer Kaffeetasse als Lehrer ein, um seinen drei Schützlingen tatkräftig zur Seite zu stehen. Owen Wilson is not a bad actor, actually I quite like him and I'm glad his suicide attempt failed, because Woody Allen could have chosen him for collaboration. However, "You, Me and Dupree" is not a comedy that I found revolutionary. You might laugh sporadically - well, it is a comedy - but it doesn't leave anything deeper in you. I see a slight parallel with the movie "Superbad". The guys need help. In "Superbad" it is about sex, in "You, Me and Dupree" it is about bullying. Not that they want to bully, but they are being bullied. It's always some nerds who get involved in it. Dupree is the one who is supposed to help them. And so, the trio of losers becomes stars. It doesn't work perfectly, but actually that's the point of the story. The comedy didn't bring anything so interesting, even though someone may appreciate Owen Wilson's naked butt. The very unoriginal and relatively unfunny screenplay is the main reason why Drillbit Taylor is such a mediocre film. Owen Wilson doesn't have much to work with, and the central child trio is about as likeable as leprosy. Still, there are some good jokes. Not enough for a good movie, unfortunately.
