The sit-com Just an Ordinary Family was originally made in 1968 as a one-off show. Due to its popularity with TV audiences, Fan Vavřincová wrote seven more episodes, giving rise to one of the most popular Czech TV series of all time. The feature film of the same name, whose screenplay was written by Patrik Hartl and based on Fan Vavřincová’s book, transposes the well-known stories and characters into the present time. The movie draws on the best of the television adaptations and at the same time embellishes the plot with new situations and twists, retelling the story in a creative and modern way. Just an Ordinary Family wants to follow up on the appeal and popularity of traditional Czech sit-coms. It is a story about laughable human foibles and comical and absurd situations that several coexisting generations must face, but most of all about the fellowship, tolerance, and love that hold the family together even when the going gets rough.
