Jonathan Levine ist nicht nur ein knochentrockener, effektiver und spannender Schocker gelungen. Sein Film ist obendrein auch noch ein unbedingt überzeugender, sehr moderner und erstklassig inszenierter Teenagerfilm, mit Figuren so witzig und frech, wie es Jugendliche nun einmal sind. Und mittendrin Mandy Lane: so süß, so attraktiv, so herzensgut und sympathisch – nicht eine Sekunde kommt Zweifel auf, dass irgendein Junge nicht immer schon von ihr geträumt haben könnte. Amber Heard spielt dieses perfekte Geschöpf – völlig klar, dass alle verrückt spielen, wenn sie auftaucht. Als sich das It-Girl zu einem Ausflug aufs Land überreden lässt, glauben Red und seine Kumpels, den Jackpot geknackt zu haben. Nur leider gibt es da auch einen Psychokiller, der nicht bereit ist, Mandy zu teilen. (Verleiher-Text)

Not a dud, neither a gem, just a slightly above-par teenage slasher. What’s good is that the kids are quite bearable and I didn’t explicitly wish death to any of them. The film is not precisely brimming with inventiveness, the murders are unoriginal, even if some of them look that they will be, but then puff! and that’s it. The ending is quite good (though very predictable), if anything, because it has a decent amount of brutality. I’d also praise the music, which adds a bit of a summer atmosphere and made me stay for some of the end credits. I could give it four stars, but only if I hadn’t seen the twist coming even before I put the film on (and I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case for more horror fans). So, in the end 55%. It’s in the same league as Prom Night, but a couple of rungs higher in the ranking.

Ein gewöhnlicher Slasher-Film, dessen Hauptattraktion überraschenderweise nicht der Hintern der Hauptfigur ist. Dieses Mal halte ich die unsichere Atmosphäre einer abgelegenen Ranch mitten im Nirgendwo für dominierend, wo eine recht klassische Verfolgungsjagd stattfindet. Es gibt jedoch kein einfallsreiches Mörder-Spiel, das der Zuschauer, der schon einige Horrorfilme gesehen hat, nicht sofort mit nahezu hundertprozentiger Sicherheit vorhersagen könnte. Aber ich werde nicht herumtoben, denn es ist tatsächlich gut anzuschauen.

There was hardly any story, and it was as shallow as lake Balaton. The screenwriter should kick his own ass for those dialogues (and not just for them). The director didn't exactly bring his A-game either. Instead of a horror atmosphere, it was mind-numbingly boring.

Influenced by Honza Vojtíšek's opinion, I watched this movie in which Mandy Lane is played by Amber Heard, an actress whom I don't particularly like and whom I have never found appealing. Honestly, I don't see anything interesting about her in 2006 or today. And just like she is uninteresting, this movie is also uninteresting.
