Geboren halb als Mensch, halb als Vampir wandelt die junge Saya (Gianna Jun) seit Jahrhunderten rastlos auf der Erde umher. Stets getrieben vom unstillbaren Durst nach menschlichem Blut und der Gier, sich an ihrer eigenen untoten Rasse zu rächen und diese für immer zu vernichten. Als das Schicksal Saya eines Tages auf die Spur schrecklicher Todesfälle mit zahlreichen menschlichen Opfern führt ist schnell klar, was hier am Werk war. Grausame Dämonen und todbringende Vampire unter Führung von Sayas Erzfeindin Onigen (Koyuki) sind für die abscheulichen Massaker verantwortlich. Bewaffnet mit ihrem Schwert und unglaublichem Kampfgeschick nimmt die zu allem entschlossene Vampirjägerin die Spur der mordenden Bestien auf. Nach und nach und mit gnadenloser Härte bringt Saya ihre verhassten Widersacher zur Strecke. Bis sie schließlich ihrem mächtigsten Gegner, der Fürstin der Vampire, im alles entscheidenden Showdown gegenübersteht... (Constantin Film)

The vampire genre has been getting one slap after another in recent years. First the degrading Twilight, then Seagal’s awful Against the Dark, and now this digital borefest that doesn’t even look like a movie in its key moments. Anyone who hates scenes where the hero falls down a 100 metre ravine with a truck, then shakes off the dust and carries on should avoid this. Schoolgirl Saya kicks more ass than Chuck Norris, but Nahon’s asexual direction turns what in theory should be a fun splatterfest into a boring farce that after 30 minutes makes you feel you’ve been watching for two hours. One of those films that I can’t trash with a Boo! but that I still regret watching.

I was still hopeful at the beginning – yeah, it'll be okay, or at least average. Bullshit, with mushrooms. It got boring. A lot. The main heroine, her American friend, all the characters, were two-dimensional with stupid dialogue. The best dialogue was in Japanese (probably mostly because I only half understood it...). Plus by the middle of the movie I couldn't take it anymore and kept fast-forwarding. Sometimes by ten minutes. Surprisingly, I didn't miss anything. The graphics are like something out of pulp game at a cheap bookstore. Nice movie... If you watch it anyway, watch it with Czech dubbing – the gold standard.

"Blood: The Last Vampire" is not a film that is so terribly bad that it should be spoken of as garbage, it would be a shame to dismiss it like that, but there are simply a lot of things missing for me. Actually, everything except the Chinese aesthetics of the fights. Especially the final fight with Onigen is truly beautiful and I really enjoyed it. It's like everything before that was just a build-up to this finale.
