Das New Yorker Ehepaar Abby (Vera Farmiga) und Brad Cairn (Sam Rockwell) führt ein erfülltes Großstadtleben. Doch als das zweite Kind zur Welt kommt, kippt die Stimmung in der Familie. Joshua (Jacob Kogan), der 9-jährige Sohn des Paars, fühlt sich durch das neugeborene Schwesterchen weniger geliebt. Der musikalisch hochbegabte Junge legt immer seltsamere Verhaltensweisen an den Tag. Er schneidet einen Stoffbären auf, um ihm Organe zu entnehmen. Auch der tote Familienhund und die nächtlichen Schreianfälle des Babys gehen auf das Konto des psychopathischen Kindes. (TELE 5)
