Well, I expected a better horror experience. The pretty realistic violence and its consequences are worth praise, and that’s pretty much all. Everything else is either average (which doesn't deserve praise), if not below-average, especially the actors – I didn’t believe the suffering heroine for a second and the villain didn’t have any effect on me. What hurts the film the most, though, are those incredible holes in logic (SPOILER: if they already got the key and undid the chains, why don’t they at least tie the psychopath if they don’t have the heart to kill him? Twice!), which for a moment made me consider two stars. But the ending improved the overall impression, so 60%.

Eine große, schwere Depression, die tiefe Konzentration und Aufmerksamkeit verdient. Nicht so sehr wegen der Menge an Blut und vorstehenden Eingeweiden (die man hauptsächlich am Anfang zu sehen bekommt), sondern vielmehr wegen des psychischen Terrors, dem die Hauptfigur ausgesetzt ist. Mason behandelt jedoch eine interessante, in einem Horrorfilm nie dagewesene Idee: Die Heldin unterzieht sich mehreren Tests (oder einem Gesamttest), um den wahren Wert des menschlichen Seins zu verstehen. Der Zuschauer wird überraschend tief in dieses Problem eingeweiht, was zu einer recht langatmigen Handlung und Spannungsverlust führt. Obwohl die Logik manchmal auf den Kopf gestellt wird, sind die letzten Minuten eine notwendige Befriedigung und Belohnung für die Geduld: Ein so verworrener Abschluss wird nur selten gesehen.
