Am Anfang halten es alle für einen schlechten Witz. Aber der Mann im Harlekin-Kostüm mitten in Montreals größter und sicherster Bank hat plötzlich eine großkalibrige Waffe in der Hand. Er meint es verdammt ernst. Ein Polizeiaufgebot in Armeestärke riegelt die Bank hermetisch ab, Scharfschützen und Sonderkommandos gehen in Stellung. Doch als die Bank nach Stunden gestürmt wird, hat er sich buchstäblich in Luft aufgelöst – und mit ihm mehr als zwei Millionen Dollar. Eine spektakuläre Hetzjagd ohne Rücksicht auf Verluste beginnt. Straßensperren werden ausgetrickst, Autos bersten durch Schaufensterfronten, 20-Tonnen-Trucks demolieren Polizeiautos und zerknittern Busse. Ganoven und Polizei sind scharf auf die Millionenbeute. Der Weg zum Flugplatz scheint endlos weit. (Verleiher-Text)

Englisch The standardly amazing Belmondo in a not-so-standard French comedy with a solid American feel that drowns the otherwise amazing French fun. ()

Englisch A few years ago, I would have given it four stars, but when I saw this classic comedy again years later, I found it somewhat unbalanced, with a number of dull moments or moments with the type of humor that doesn't appeal to me. The uneven cast is probably to blame, with Belmondo being two or three times better than Cattrall and Marchand. Something is not quite right when an actor in a purely supporting role steals the show in the second half of the film. Several scenes with Jacques Villeret as a taxi driver are superb, especially the scene where Villeret escapes in Adam's costume, disguised with twigs – it's simply divine. The first half of the film mainly relies on Belmondo and his performances as a clown, but they should have worked more on the dialogues, because, as I mentioned at the beginning, several scenes without Belmondo are unremarkable. Overall impression: 65%. ()

Englisch Definitely one of the highlights of French crime comedy. Belmondo rocks both the bank robbery in a clown suit and the dangerous stunts on a moving car, Kim Cattrall is quite good, and Francis Veber conducts it all at a relentless pace and with a great joke in every line. The second half does take a bit of the shine off, and cutting the film by at least ten minutes wouldn't hurt, but I still had such a good time that I could have taken one more break-in in the end just fine. Belmondo has no competition. ()
