Gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts schließt der frisch durch den Vampirfürst Sebatian seiner Geliebten beraubte Dr. Abraham Van Helsing einen Pakt mit dem Jenseits, auf dass ihm ewiges Leben gewährt werde, bis er den letzten Vampirfürsten auf Erden zur Strecke gebracht hat. Nun, in der Gegenwart, arbeitet Van Helsing sinnigerweise in der Unfallklinik-Notaufnahme zu L.A. und entdeckt gerade tiefere Gefühle für eine knackige Krankenschwester, als seine alte Nemesis in Begleitung einer neuen, mächtigen Freundin wieder um die Ecke schaut. "Vampire. He is ruthless. And even more than ruthless - he is rough..." Watched purely out of a desire for knowledge, what is this Asylum. While watching, I began to look around confusedly for any clue that would calm me down and indicate if it might be a parodic joke. But it's not, the film seriously incorporates the most famous names of legends about bloodthirsty creatures and destroys them. Where did the classic drama of "will it hit the wooden stake or not" go? Where did the stylish leaders of vampires who burned with their gaze go? And where did Dracula from the big-mouthed name actually disappear? I'll give you a hint - he met a ridiculous death even before the opening credits started! And unfortunately, instead of him, we were left with a bunch of stumbling or, on the contrary, frantically fast wreckage. The vampires' journey is neither disgusting nor embarrassing. It's just insanely boring. One star for the repeatedly returning suggestive passage of Abraham sacrificing himself for the salvation of his beloved being. That's how much of a softie I am.
