Fluglotse Jack hat seinen Beruf an den Nagel gehängt, da er sich die Schuld für einen Flugzeugabsturz gibt. Jetzt soll er zum Jahreswechsel bei seinen Kollegen am Flughafen in Phoenix aushelfen. A bland genre hybrid that carries all the standard clichés of its genre. Ground Control works neither as a disaster drama nor as a dramatic journey into the soul of a man who blames himself for a grave mistake. Moreover, there were too many "troubled" souls here at times, and the character development was cut off halfway, except for one instance. Instead of the expected tension with the endangered airport, it brought nothing but another dose of boredom. Even Kiefer Sutherland's enjoyable and down-to-earth performance couldn't elevate the mediocre level of the film, whose premise promised much more potential than what was ultimately wasted. It appears that there was a missed opportunity in both the screenplay and direction, making this a prime example of an "unnecessary film."
