Today is Prague cabdriver Jarda's (Jan Dolanský) birthday and he plans to enjoy it. Everything's organized, everything's under control - just like his life thus far. He gets along with everyone, takes care of everything. Jarda's simply "got it" - a great wife, a beautiful flat, a comfortable job, a new mistress, lots of useful acquaintances... Everything's going according to plan until he picks up a conservative and principled retiree (Viktor Preiss) who - in the course of just one day - manages to unravel Jarda's whole life. Englisch Kotík is once again no good as a screenwriter, although the direction it's not as terrible as last time. But it's only because the plot "allows" him to stare through the windshield inside the car most of the time because when he gets out of it, it's hell with humor. Preiss and Dolanský save it from being complete shit. The two of them obviously found a similar acting wave and even though they spit out catchphrases without any balls, we don’t feel the need to kill ourselves, at least for a while. It’s a step up from the director's horrible first film, but it’s still also on the miserable level of current Czech film productions. ()

Englisch Compared to Pánská jízda (Male Party) there is a giant quality leap. Not that Kotík’s second attempt to shoot a good movie was successful, but at least you won’t feel so embarrassed watching it as you would with his debut. It’s boring, somehow I didn’t notice any attempts to make it funny (only except the bad joke of Sparta loosing with Brno on their home pitch), nobody here acts and the cheap moral of the movie is meant for... I can’t tell, probably for no one on earth? ()

Englisch This is one of the few positive surprises in Czech cinema in recent years. I respect Dolanský, but it took something that was just right in the film to make it good in another field. The whole is a brisk and in its own way suspenseful film, graced by Viktor Preiss in a supporting role. He also really needed a big film role, and in that, he succeeded. Mr. Kotík, just don't fall asleep. ()
