The frosty winter of 1918 in the Eastern Borderlands of Poland. Three young nurses set out for work at a Polish Red Cross field hospital situated close to the Polish-Russian frontline. They see their mission both as fulfilment of their patriotic duty. When they are faced with the atrocities of war and the Bolshevik onslaught, their romantic adventure turns into a nightmare that will put them through a terrible ordeal. (Camerimage)
