Dr. Gergely Péter, a university assistant lecturer, leads a happy life with Mária, his wife. They are celebrating their wedding day, enjoying Tsaikovski's symphony No. 6 when there is a phone calling him to see a patient. Mária, having received an anonymous phone call, goes to a previously unknown address where she finds her husband with another woman. She does not believe in her husband's innocence. She decides to get a divorce and then marries Máté Tibor, a lawyer, who has been hopelessly courting her for years. Péter, despaired, attempts suicide; he soon has a visitor at his bedside, the girl who caused the tragedy. Bálint István, a journalist, after finding out that girl has been paid by dr. Máté to get Gergely into this embarrassing situation, reveals the machination. Péter finally recovers from his illness, but suffers from the loss of his memory due to all the excitements he has been through. In an effort to help him remember, Mária and the doctors together recall the events that took place on the wedding day. The experiment is a success, Gergely regains his memory and the couple can go on with their life, listening to Tchaikovski's symphony in exactly the same way as they did when their happiness was intruded upon.
