Kovács János, the unemployed chemical engineer is obliged to take a twenty pengoe job in a drug store. He tells his widowed mother that he is employed in a factory as an engineer. His position is rather shaky even in the storehouse, but the manager asks the diligent, but ham-handed new co-worker to be his best man at the wedding. In the rented tailcoat Kovács finds a letter of invitation to a ball, where he is photographed standing by the side of the minister of commerce. The next day newspapers call him to be a friend of the minister, and accidentally Kovács is appointed to be the director of a chemical works. He soon shows himself a capable man professionally, and marries Manci the young manicurist who pretended to be a baroness at the ball. (Verleiher-Text)
