After the war, Erőss Gábor, released from its captivity, returns home. Abandoned by his love, he finds his house ruined. Nikita, his neighbour, and the roaming Levite come to his assistance by offering him both their friendship and a draught animal. Ambrus lets him "spiritually" marry his daughter Ida, who was killed by wild animals but has survive in her father's soul. Gábor and Boróka, daughter of Butyka, an architect, fall in love with each other, but Gábor cannot be unfaithful to his spiritual sweetheart. Finally, Ida turns out to be Boróka herself, because the wild animals killed Butyka's child so he then stole Ambrus' s daughter. The coexistence of body and soul in harmony is the epitome of hope for a new life. (Verleiher-Text)
