Casablanca

Nur wenigen Filmen steht die Bezeichnung "eine Legende“ so wie dem Film Casablanca. Es ist völlig egal, dass er süß und voller Pathos ist, dass Humphrey Bogart bei der Darstellung seiner Härte vielleicht am Rande des Erträglichen balanciert, dass er auch wegen des Entstehungsjahres naiv wirken kann… Ich persönlich habe in Casablanca immer eine starke, beeindruckende Geschichte gesehen, die sich am Ende erlaubt hat, eine gewöhnliche Freundschaft der Liebe gleichzusetzen (oder sie noch höher einzustufen?). Ich sehe sie dort immer noch und hoffe, dass es auch in ein paar Jahren so sein wird. (26.08.2014)

Die Schwedin Ingrid Bergman, die Engländer Claude Rains und Sydney Greenstreet, die Deutschen Conrad Veidt, Peter Lorre und Hans Heinrich von Twardowski, der Italiener Paul Henreid (der einen Tschechoslowaken mit ungarischem Namen spielt), die Franzosen Madeleine Lebeau und Marcel Dalio... und viele andere unter der Regie des ungarischen Regisseurs Manó Kertész Kaminer. Was könnte noch mehr Hollywood-Klassik sein? Eine papierraschelnde Romanze, die dank des Schicksals zu etwas viel Größerem wurde. Vielleicht liegt es an der paradoxen Art und Weise, in der sich die Exilschauspieler in die Geschichte über das Exil mischen. (04.02.2009)

After watching the movie I had a persistent feeling that I checked off one of the classics, but it left no mark on my soul. It left nothing in me at all. And I don’t getwhy a Czech nationalist would appreciate one of the characters who has a Czech passport, but also a hell of a Hungarian name. But mostly, I appreciate the fact that during the war local bohemians managed to film such a distinct spy movie which they immediately combined with romance and love so that the Gestapo wouldn’t look for some secret meaning. However, not counting the awesomeness of the movie, I feel a great deal of naivety typical for the time period. The naivety which characterizes this cinematography is, truthfully, alien to me. As time goes by... The most beautiful fate woman and the most charismatic cynic collided once and events occurred that changed not only the world around them, but also the world within them. And when it was revealed how small the whole world can be fatefully, the consequences were no less serious. I ​​want to experience my own Casablanca and I want to become part of such a timeless duo. Even though I will never be Bogart and I will never be able to demonstrate courage and humanity so fundamentally. So feel free to curse clichés as you like. The naive political background and lack of chemistry between the central duo bothered me. Although I really like Bergman, she isn’t convincing at all here and it is probably impossible to believe that Rick and Elsa were ever bonded by fateful, undying love. In my opinion Bogart always belonged, belongs and will belong to Bacall or Grahame. This is a quality picture, but one of the more standard Bogart movies. (21.01.2005)
