Der Undercover-Reporter Fletch gibt sich als Obdachloser aus, um mehr über die Drogenszene von Los Angeles herauszufinden. Während seiner Recherche lernt er den vermeintlich todkranken Alan Stanwyk kennen. Dieser verlangt von Fletch, ihn umzubringen und verspricht ihm eine Belohnung von 50.000 Dollar. Der Reporter hat Zweifel und deckt bei seinen Nachforschungen nicht nur Stanwyks Doppelleben auf, sondern enthüllt auch noch die korrupten Drogengeschäfte des Polizeichefs. (Puls4)

Decent, classically constructed solid genre plot versus Chase, making escapades with grin from ear to ear and silly humor in every single scene. In addition, a moronic voiceover and a truly guilty pleasure 80's soundtrack. In the original, I assume journalist / detective Fletch is conceived as a charming cynic who will not take a step without a dry one-liner. Here he is conceived as an asshole. Not that the contrast between serious genre and grotesque humor could not work, it could, and especially with Chase, but here it doesn´t work smoothly, it never gets it right and it all give the impression of a pilot of a second-rate 80's series more than anything else.
