Count Miklós inherits a water-mill in the valley of the Hernád river, but it is burdened with more debts than what it is worth. He revives the mill, aided by the faithful and old miller and supplies it with a musical device. In the neighbouring castle lives a beautiful girl, Rétfalvy Márta, whom he would like to know more closely. It comes in handy that the butler Márta's pretentious aunt employed from a count's house goes to the mill by mistake. The butler and the count exchange functions and the count appears in the castle as an engaged butler. The chattering of the amorous singer in love with the real butler reveals the trickery, so the walls that separated the young lovers fall down. (Verleiher-Text)
