Bárány András and Patkós Nagy Rózsi have been engaged for years now, but, given the absence of her certificate of baptism, they cannot get married. The badly needed document finally arrives. Rózsi, according to the document, is of Jewish origin and is the illegitimate daughter of Blum Salamon of Torda. As a foundling, she was adopted by the Patkós Nagy family. When Rózsi learns all this, she waives András of his promise, but András feels he is unable to live without her and visits the widow of Blum Salamon, with whom Rózsi is now living, expressing his wish to the old woman to propose to Rózsi. Mrs. Blum rejects András's offer as she has a man of substance in mind for Rózsi. Enter the village notary, breaking the news that there has been a mistake, Blum's offspring was another foundling, but the child died, and it was then that Rózsi was adopted, which is to say that Rózsi, after all, is not Jewish. Mrs. Blum now tells Bárány András she has no objection to their marriage. The wedding ceremony is held in the inn of Torockó. (Verleiher-Text)
