Die Welt am Abgrund: der diabolische Diktator Bison (Raul Julia) terrorisiert mit seiner gewalttätigen Streitmacht das Land. A cult-classic, though not exactly brilliant, it is one of the most famous films with Jean-Claude Van Damme. There isn't as much action as there should be and, on the contrary, there is an abundance of chatter. But the self-parody and several interesting references and winks occasionally make you smile, realising that they didn't take everything so seriously after all. Furthermore, towards the end, Van Damme showcases some great kicks and flips, so that's a small plus.

That's all I'll give it, even though my lustful eyes feasted on the ravishing Kylie. I could simply put on a clip with her and I wouldn’t have to watch this botched and boring Van Damme flick.

It's a kind of craziness that isn't executed too badly, even though one might think so given the time it was made. When there are special effects, they're nowhere near as bad as one might think. I quite like that it's this kind of crazy costume drama where everything's thrown together helter-skelter, and surprisingly, it turns out quite well. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it’s good fun for an hour and a half.
