Leatherface

Unsurprisingly, Hooper’s first part still leads by a long margin (it couldn’t be otherwise, it’s one of the best horror movies ever), but this sequel is not that bad. The atmosphere is thick, the swamps and the dark forest work really well, and the occasional dark humour doesn’t hurt, either. Except for the ending, when “dead” characters reappear happily alive of nowhere, I’m very satisfied. (27.04.2010)

Unlike the disastrous black-humoured second film, this sequel sticks to the tried-and-tested horror formula, which is pure B-movie in all its twists and turns and more or less in its execution, but it has the reverberating 1980s feeling of unpretentiously fun and properly bloody slasher films and you just don't get bored. I liked the setting in gloomy misty forests, some really juicy violence and a few good directorial ideas (I was especially impressed by the fake continuity of view between the pursued and Leatherface at one point). In contrast, I was madly irritated by the impossible behaviour of all the characters, the terribly stupid dialogues and the ridiculous invulnerability of the players, who are not prevented from entering a scene even after having their heads smashed in. In short, it's an average genre film, although the outdatedness of the premise is already very apparent. 50% (01.05.2017)

Lederface ist eine sehr fade Fortsetzung aus Pflichtgefühl, in der man jederzeit vorhersagen kann, was in der Handlung in fünf Minuten passieren wird, und es dann tatsächlich geschieht. Es wird erst unterhaltsam, wenn der charismatische und in jeder Situation coole Ken Foree auftaucht, der etwas frischen Wind in die ansonsten völlig schematische Szenerie bringt (ähnlich wie der übertriebene Dennis Hopper im zweiten Teil). Das Ende des Films, das den gesamten vorherigen Handlungsakt zu ignorieren scheint und Charaktere auf die Leinwand zurückbringt, mit denen bereits abgeschlossen wurde, wirkte wie eine unlogische Nachbesserung. Obwohl ich es nicht erwartet hatte, hat es mir noch weniger gefallen als das seltsam verrückte Hooper-Sequel. Was soll's, der wahre und intensive Texas Chainsaw Massacre gibt es nur einen. I consider the third part of the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" series to be slightly better than Hooper's second part, which simply did not entertain me. This is a classic survival with black humor, which works quite well. The film doesn't surprise, but the acting performances are such that they won't discourage you. It's the kind of movie that doesn't excite, but at the same time it doesn't disgust you just by watching it. The average rating fits best here. (13.11.2014)
