Waren die ersten beiden Filme der Erzählung von Michael Ende nachempfunden, basiert dieser dritte Teil nur noch auf den Charakteren. Bastian muss ein weiteres Mal Fantasien retten, doch dazu muss er das Buch der unendlichen Geschichte finden, dass in der realen Welt in die falschen Hände geraten ist. (Verleiher-Text)

This is so bad I wouldn't even include it in our Vomit Screen film club program, which focuses on the worst B-movies. The creators of this shite should be served as an appetizer to the Rockbiter.

An utterly botched film that should be rated as not suitable for children in an effort to cultivate their tastes. It has a terrible script and execution. A complete degeneration of the original idea of the literary "The NeverEnding Story." If Michael Ende, as the author, had serious reservations about the above-average first film, then this impressive mess most likely brought him to his grave, as he died a few months after its premiere. Overall impression: 5%.

Eine schreckliche Fortsetzung, die jeden Anflug von Urteilskraft verloren hat. Die Kindliche Kaiserin wird von Nummer zwanzig gespielt, und die ursprünglichen Bewohner von Phantasien entsprechen eher dem Design der Charaktere aus der späteren Animationsserie. Selbst der Antiquar Koreander wurde zum Bibliothekar an der Schule suspendiert. Sinnlose Anspielungen auf die Popkultur, unnötige Szenen im Einkaufszentrum... Schwach, sehr schwach. Leider hat Ende das noch miterlebt.

This is really bad. The story itself is pathetic, but here no one understood the magic of the first film. It's a farce with fairytale scenery that takes place in the contemporary world. Recognizing young Jack Black is not a victory. But that's not the whole cringeworthy movie that incredibly naively tries to evoke emotions.
