Auf der Suche nach neuen Herausforderungen reist der junge New Yorker Journalist Paul Kemp 1960 nach Puerto Rico, um für eine lokale Zeitung zu arbeiten. Per Zufall lernt er den einflussreichen, wohlhabenden Unternehmer Sanderson kennen, der ihn als PR-Mann für ein höchst fragwürdiges Hotelprojekt gewinnen will. Eine Riesenchance, sein Leben sorgenfrei im Süden verbringen zu können. Das Überangebot an Rum und die Liebe zu Sandersons verführerischer Verlobten Chenault machen Paul jedoch rasch einen Strich durch die Rechnung. (ORF)
