Home and abroad, the American writer Truman Capote (1924-1984) elicited many fierce reactions with his book In Cold Blood from 1966. This ‘non-fiction novel’ about the gruesome assassination of a couple and their two children in 1959 was based on the official legal documents, taped interviews and letters by the two young killers, who were sentenced to death. This film is an account of an interview a journalist did with the author in his house on the coast, on the occasion of the publication of his book. Capote, candidly and with a great sense of humour, talks about his book and the literary view underlying it – a method that closely resembles the methods that are advocated by the Maysles brothers.
