Rarely shown reportage about the Toubous, a community in Tibesti, in the north of Chad, which is oppressed by the Chad government. "Somewhere in between cinema and photography," the viewer observes the day-to-day activities they carry out to stay alive. Averse to exoticism, Depardon films beautiful black-and-white footage of this region. At the time, the film was nominated for a César. Depardon: "Tibesti Too was a formidable experience. Tibesti is the Orient, but it's also an agricultural world. I discovered many similarities to the world of my childhood. People ask me, 'The Toubous, who are they?' Yes, they're exotic, but they're also people like us. I remember when my father asked me the same question. I felt like telling him that in the end, there's no huge difference between them and a farmer from Villefranche-sur Saône [Depardon's childhood village]."
