Christopher Lee stars in this Hammer production as Father Michael, an excommunicated priest out to do the Devil's work. Having entered into a pact with the Dark One, Father Michael has agreed to secure a beautiful young virgin (Nastassja Kinski) to become Satan's child-bride. However, when an occult writer (Widmark) discovers the evil Father's plan, he lies his way into Father Michael's cult to save the young girl from bearing Satan's spawn. Mr. Lee turns in one of his finest performances in this controversial shocker that turned out to be Hammer's final horror film. (Verleiher-Text)

Die Braut des Satans ist praktisch das letzte Lied des Hammer-Filmstudios. Es ist ein solides Genre-Werk mit einer sehr beeindruckenden Besetzung (Richard Widmark X Christopher Lee = Bombe), aber ich habe es mehr durch seine ersten zwei Drittel genossen, in denen eine dunkle Atmosphäre gut aufgebaut wird, als durch das Finale, das sehr gehetzt wirkt und so Antiklimatisch endet, wie man sich nur vorstellen kann. Es wäre schön, am Ende eine bemerkenswerte Wendung zu haben.

Eine schwache Antwort auf Rosemaries Baby und Das Omen, interessant wird sie wahrscheinlich nur für die Fans von Christopher Lee und von B-Movies aller Art sein.

I don't think the British-German film To the Devil a Daughter deserves that much criticism, because there's definitely a lot of good to be found in it. Yes, the story isn't original and can seem a bit long-winded at times, but the final unravelling is brilliantly shot, including the excellent visuals. The performances of the two male leads only underscore the fact that this film is watchable.
