Teenager Mary ist geschockt, als sie erfährt, dass sie aus ihrer geliebten Heimatstadt ausgerechnet nach New Jersey ziehen muss. Das wars dann wohl mit ihrem Traum von einer Schauspielkarriere! Von nun an beschließt sie, nicht mehr Mary, sondern Lola zu heißen. Nur gut, dass sie an ihrer neuen Schule schnell zwei gute Freunde findet. Aber da ist auch noch Carla, das beliebteste Mädchen der Schule und Lolas Erzrivalin. Carla hofft nämlich genau wie Lola, die weibliche Hauptrolle im nächsten Schul-Theaterstück zu ergattern. The film gives its critics huge space for corrosively ironic and passionately categorical judgments against it. It is a commercial article designed to appeal to teenage girls. It is a stereotypical superficial affair, where even life lessons, which the protagonist gradually learns, seem trivial and fake. I am not the target audience, but I will leave the venomous quips to more qualified individuals. It is far from garbage, not only because of the presence of the talented Lindsay Lohan and the (at a minimum) charming Megan Fox. But also because the film avoids embarrassing sexual innuendos, basement humor, and cheap vulgarity. Despite all its flaws, there is a certain level of professionalism to it. We all know how Lindsay dealt with her talent. What comes around goes around. If nothing else, the film is a sad reminder of the wasted potential of a girl who had a chance to conquer the entertainment industry. Overall impression: 25%.
