Simba (Matthew Broderick) und Nala (Moira Kelly) haben eine kleine Tochter bekommen, die auf den Namen Kiara (Neve Campbell) hört. Als sie eines Tages ihren “Babysittern” Timon (Nathan Lane) und Pumbaa (Ernie Sabella) entwischt, weil sie – wei einst der Vater – das Land auf eigene Faust erforschen will, lernt sie hinter den Grenzen von Simbas Reich den Löwenjungen Kovu (Jason Marsden) kennen. Die beiden freunden sich an, doch Kiara ahnt nicht, daß Kovo ein Sprößling Scars (Jim Cummings) ist, und daß er, sobald er erwachsen ist, ihren Vater Simba stürzen soll. (Verleiher-Text)

The opposite of how unnecessary classic Disney sequels can sometimes appear. No glimpses into the childhood of the main characters or spoiling a legendary happy ending. Simba's story tells the destinies of a new generation and if the original Lion King was a child's Hamlet, the second installment strives for Romeo and Juliet. Even with the passage of time, it does not inflict any embarrassment on the legendary animated film and, on the contrary, perfectly complements its story.
