An Oscar-winning look at the Nazi Klaus Barbie, who after 1945 was in the service of Western intelligence agencies. Ophuls proved to be an excellent interviewer. I can't help it, but this movie just seems drawn out to me, and mainly about blaming other people for helping a person who committed atrocities to hide. It's almost as if Ophüls was looking for an answer as to why such creatures were helped. Well, maybe it would be better to answer why such a monster existed in the first place. But there isn't a very nice answer to that.
