Brügge sehen... und sterben? (2008)

Englisch From what I've seen, Bruges is the perfect destination for romantic rendezvous, sightseeing tours, or the settling of scores between two hitmen. The filmmakers took full advantage of the setting to create just the right atmosphere. The story intrigued me, even though its characters didn’t quite appeal to me. The film combines a serious subject with hilarity, which made for a good time. There was a moral lesson to take away, though not as blatant as in some American movies.

Conversations with Other Women (2005)

Englisch It’s a huge risk to base a whole film around a conversation between two actors, but this one managed to pull it off. Helena Bonham Carter is a safe bet, and I do like Aaron Eckhart, but he pleasantly surprised me anyway. The dialogue perfectly dissected the past and present, and even the split screen worked really well.

Rendezvous mit Joe Black (1998)

Englisch Let’s face it, this was an overly sappy tearjerker, but I enjoyed the story on the whole. The cast was excellent, and the plot was thankfully miles away from Rosamund Pilcher's romances. And I mean nautical miles. When my cynical self took a break, and my rational self tuned out the streams of tears and romantic staring contests, I was left with a film that was quite enjoyable to watch.

Ein Fressen für die Geier (1970)

Englisch Not that I'm crazy about Westerns, but I do enjoy the ones with Clint Eastwood. This one was a little different; the filmmakers were going for a more humorous take on things, and those expecting a lot of shoot-outs would end up sorely disappointed, except for the ending. I enjoyed the film even the second time around (except for a few minor issues). Clint Eastwood was badass as Hogan, Shirley MacLaine was cute as Sara, and Ennio Morricone reminded me once again of how much I love his scores. I was certainly satisfied, and I stand by my original rating.

Weißer Oleander (2002)

Englisch While I do enjoy movies that let me switch my brain to standby mode and relax peacefully, this one doesn't fall into that category. It belongs to a different type of films that I adore — those that demand every brain cell to work at full capacity. This category has depth and leaves you pondering long after the credits roll. Astrid's story gripped me even tighter on my second watch, so I decided to give it a higher rating.

GLOW - Season 2 (2018) (Staffel)

Englisch I’m not exactly thrilled about Season 2. Reasons: there was less wrestling, there was less humor., and I'm really sick of how politically correct propaganda is implemented into almost every movie or show. It's constantly drummed into my head that if I think differently from the herd, I'm a disgusting white heterosexual pig = sexual abuser. I think contemporary filmmakers (especially those at Netflix) should put down their Marxism-Leninism pamphlets and read some Orwell or Solzhenitsyn for a change.

GLOW - Alles hat einen Preis (2018) (Folge)

Englisch Talk about fluctuations. I had mixed feelings after the last episode, but in the finale, it's like the creators remembered all the best bits from the first season. They nailed it with this final episode, almost making me forget about the mishaps of this season. Almost. Anyway, I had a blast this time around.

GLOW - Rosalie (2018) (Folge)

Englisch Wrestling took a back seat this time around. Instead, it was more about family, friends, and HIV. It sounds odd when I put it like that, but truth be told, it was actually quite enjoyable. There was just one big issue — it felt like this series had veered off course from what I originally knew it to be. I'm curious to see how the creators handle the finale of this season, considering how far they've strayed from the original intention.

GLOW - Der gute Zwilling (2018) (Folge)

Englisch Okay... this was definitely a departure from the usual. It took me right back to the 90s when we first started watching things filmed in this style, and I tried to catch as many as I could because it was all so new and exciting. But then I realized it was mostly a waste of time and I started focusing on more worthwhile shows, like Dallas :-) So yeah, it's a fantastic throwback that had me laughing with sheer delight.

GLOW - Keine Knochensplitter (2018) (Folge)

Englisch Surprisingly, the episode earned a decent rating from me, despite the absence of wrestling and a lack of humor. The creators skillfully crafted a solid atmosphere in the hospital without resorting to excessive melodrama. Once again, Betty Gilpin delivered a brilliant performance, as she managed to make me feel negative emotions towards her character, Debbie. That's quite an achievement, considering how much I like her as an actress.
