Furenaba očin (2016) (Serie)

Englisch The interesting/uninteresting concept of Japanese marriage (possibly applicable outside of Japan) and what's missing or, conversely, what's in it. First of all, I have to say that I didn't find the falling in love between the wife/mother and the young man very well portrayed. I understand that he was impressed by such a rather energetic woman who takes her duties seriously, and that she was very flattered that a young man fell in love with her, after all, something like that does any older woman good for the soul. But I don't understand where the strong emotions came from that the filmmakers are trying to convince us of, especially at the end. It's not a bad series, it passes relatively quickly, the husband is portrayed very sympathetically, which is not often the case; but it doesn't go into much depth either and comes across as superficial, so you don't particularly fall in love with anyone or anything like that. You just watch, shake your head, hang your head, shut down, and move on. Run of the mill.

Sukina Hito ga Iru Koto (2016) (Serie)

Englisch Actually perfect for girls – the main character is surrounded by three attractive guys, plus she's very good at what she does. It's basically a series full of the kind of stuff you can come across in romance series, the only thing missing is amnesia... The love triangle, the "dark" past, the shyness of the heroine who can't keep her mouth shut, the first love perfect in everything he does, nice to the point that I absolutely hate his character; the second one, on the other hand, is rude and hides his good intentions behind his rudeness, and just... yeah, all those romantic and comedy clichés are there. Unfortunately at the expense of a proper story or interesting characters. Fine as a summer romance, but that's all there is to it. The acting isn't even great enough to make you want to see it. It's better to watch Hiroin shikkaku, where the two central characters are also together in similar roles, but it works out better time-wise. On the other hand, it has a good OST, basically above average compared to other Japanese summer series. But it doesn't really bring anything new to the table. If you like all the soap opera clichés in one place, check it out, you’ll enjoy it.

Usagi Drop (2011) (Serie)

Englisch Honestly, for a story like this, I'm happy with the live-action version. It's not bad, it's a commercial for perfect parenting and perfect kids, so it's kind of a feel-good show, and when you get dreamy, it's great and nothing is lacking. Though of course the film can't cover everything in the depth and scope of the anime. Still, I liked the movie better. A better 3 stars.

Metro Manila (2013)

Englisch After watching it, you are ultimately left with nothing to do but appreciate your good fortune and realize how ridiculous your problems are. But they're your problems, so they're not ridiculous. It's just that this movie makes them seem small. What the poet meant to say is that Manila is a mess and the Philippines, especially with a new president who's pulling with China and killing junkies, is not a destination, although you can get a lot for a lot of money there. A rough story. Certainly not based on one truth, but scraps that someone picked up while walking around town. Interestingly told.

Kiseki no hito (2016) (Serie)

Englisch Again, kind of that typical Japanese story – someone is miserable, but comes across a group of people he becomes close to and everything turns out well because they help him grow, especially emotionally. The cast is good, the little one annoyed me at times, but what else can a blind and deaf child do but squawk and struggle? On the other hand, I wasn't that affected by the story; I've just seen better human dramas in this vein, but if you're just getting started with Japan, I think you'll like it. The only thing that really bugged me was the nose hair plucking. Is it normal in Japan to pull them out like that and gift them to someone or just let them blow away in the wind? :-D

Cold Case - Kein Opfer ist je vergessen (2003) (Serie)

Englisch I'm enjoying this series a lot, not only do the episodes go by quite briskly, but they're always spiced up with great music and can be very moving, plus the editing is very good. Of course, it's the same thing over and over again – interrogating, denying, lying, questioning, and revealing the truth, and you can always tell when they've finally got the right guy. Still, I enjoyed a lot of the episodes and the fact is that I've seen almost all of them.

Wataši ga motenai no wa dó kangaete mo omaera ga warui! (2013) (Serie)

Englisch I was very curious about Kuroki Tomoko because she's just not a heroine you encounter every day in the anime world. Or at least, that’s what I thought. I admit that the parody was pretty fitting and the author did a great job (for example, the famous Death Note scene), but I just wasn't interested in Tomoko: on the contrary, I found her terribly unlikable. And this was compounded when we realized that she had no development. What you find in the first episode is there in the last. The constant repetition of the same pattern here didn't thrill me; in fact, it rather put me off. I'm definitely saying no to the next season.

Die rote Schildkröte (2016)

Englisch The story begins with a storm – an abandoned castaway wakes up on a desert island and immediately starts thinking of ways to escape this desolation and return to civilization. Try as he might, he fails. Especially when he discovers the cause of his misfortune, he cannot suppress his anger and despair and does something he will later regret. But that's part of life. His loneliness, however, allows him to know himself, and in the end, fate allows him to understand the meaning of love and parenthood, and to know the moment when the old generation should step back and leave the world to the young. The\\is entire magical story about the cycle of life is beautified with ordinary colors. The author doesn't overdo it with color even though he could. He remains spare and even manages to highlight the important things without adding to their saturation. The film then gives the impression that there is no more striking color in his world than red. And perhaps that's just as well, because here red is a symbol of love. Without it, the world might as well be black and white. Still, one can see that every stroke is painted with care and the animation cannot be faulted. It basically tells the story of an ordinary everyday life, albeit in an unusual place, so it suits the story very well. However, the same cannot be said of the music. Of course, it was breathtaking like any music recorded by a symphony orchestra, yet I think it almost spoiled the impression in some scenes, as it took over the whole narrative and moved it somewhere it shouldn't have been according to the scene that was just taking place. Still, I don't think anyone would be disappointed if they just listened to the notes that were sounded. Aside from the animation and the music, there is one last important thing left that a film is not a film without – the script. The Red Turtle is de Wit's feature debut, which he has been working on for almost a decade. It is certainly ambiguous. If you're a film critic, you may find yourself rooting around in the film and come away satisfied. If you're a tired parent who goes to the movies with your child instead of catching up on sleep at home, the story is more likely to fail to engage you. On the other hand, it will entertain your little one, because she could and will enjoy this unusual film. So don't be afraid to go see it with your kids, don't be afraid to look for everything it conceals, because this movie can satisfy any age group. The only thing that matters is whether you can embrace this dreamy realistic fairy tale and not ask "why?". A strong 3 stars.

Woori sunhee (2013)

Englisch Interesting subject matter, the direction wasn't bad, but that's about it. The camera (which doesn't even try to hide that it's always there) is your peephole into their world, and you just watch as these people interact with each other. That's all. An interesting cast that did well in the grey of the everyday. If you're interested in a slice of life of a few Koreans, go for it. I can't even praise the performances, because no one stood out in the story. Maybe the film has some depth to it, but I couldn't find it or figure it out.

Suicide Squad (2016)

Englisch They put together a plethora of people dumb enough to be characters in their own stories, which means that not a single character was fleshed out enough for you to know more about them beyond what they like (their kid, the other nutcase, the unicorn, etc.). In truth, I wasn't entertained by the film, it just became a backdrop to keep the room from being quiet – it fulfilled this function perfectly, as it was well voiced. But that's the only great thing about this movie; otherwise it's pretty average, below average. Many heroes and anti-heroes were created, but it just doesn't reach any dizzying heights. It had a great advertisement that lit up the work and drove it to the heights of heaven, but the truth is otherwise...
