Marvel's The Punisher (2017) (Serie)

Englisch The series the year and the role of a lifetime for Jon Bernthal, he was born to play the Punisher. I'm a bit disappointed that the main revenge took place in Daredevil and that there's no proper bad guy, but this version has something going for it too. The series is surprisingly very intimate and it's more of a drama-thriller; the action doesn't happen until the final minutes of each episode and it's obviously very brutal to realistically rendered. The Punisher is half dead at the end of each episode, barely walking, he gets a solid beating and you sympathize with him. The series benefits mainly from great acting performances, dense suspenseful scenes, a very emotional touch, excellent dialogue and brutal action, but there could have been more of it. A big plus for the beautiful government detective Amber Rose Revah, who also shows up naked and looks very good. Probably the best action scene is the one is in the Special Forces bunker and the Taliban, a great show. 90%

Justice League (2017)

Englisch I don't know, I'm probably over-saturated, but I'm getting tired of this kind of expensive digital mess that are all on the same page lately. It kinda bothers me that every comic book movie lately has a villain from outer space (except Captain America: Winter Soldier), Batman vs Superman was pretty much holding its own until it culminated in digital madness again at the end, which makes my head hurt. Wonder Woman, Superman and Aquaman are great, Cyborg and Flash are annoyingly uninteresting and Batman didn't show much. The villain is artificial and classically useless even with his entire army. The action isn't very exciting (I prefer battles and shootouts to flying through the air) and the humor is rarely good. I wasn't bored, but I'm not satisfied either. 60%.

Daddy’s Home 2 - Mehr Väter, mehr Probleme (2017)

Englisch More interesting than the first one thanks to Mel Gibson, but still rather average family entertainment with good actors. There aren't many gags, and the occasional situational humour is amusing, but it's more for kids and family, which is why it also keeps the bad language to a minimum. I wasn't bored, very fine as an outing, but I would need more for a 4*. I envy my friend who saw all the actors involved live a week ago. 65%

68 Kill (2017)

Englisch A decent B-movie about a hot hooker who decides to steal money from her Sugar Daddy with her boyfriend, only for the whole thing to turn into a mess full of twists, surprises, dead bodies, twisted characters and blood. Very decent entertainment that's colorfully shot, pleasantly gory, deliciously exciting and even funny in places. It's admittedly an unpretentious B-movie, but it meets all the criteria expected of a film, making it an ideal choice for one viewing. The final carnage in the trailer was great. 75%.

Agora - Die Säulen des Himmels (2009)

Englisch Quite possibly the best film by Alejandro Amenábar and a great serving of history from ancient Alexandria with the beautiful Rachel Weisz to boot. Very nicely shot, with some gritty scenes of people being stoned alive, nicely narrated, clearly told and rich in religion. There aren't many great historical films and I appreciate every one. Great. 85%.

Der Mongole (2007)

Englisch Again a piece of history this time from Mongolia. The film beautifully captures the life of the Mongols from children to adults and the birth of their greatest warlord Genghis Khan. Filmed believably, there is surprisingly enough action and blood, the pacing is decent and on the plus side it is a revenge drama, my favourite sub-genre. 80%.

Adams Äpfel (2005)

Englisch It stars Mads Mikkelsen, but the film was weird for my taste. I wasn't extremely interested in anything, it's not funny or entertaining, I didn't really like the characters, and a few minutes after it was over I had trouble telling in two sentences what it was about. Not much 50%

American Assassin (2017)

Englisch I loved the trailer, but I'm not too excited about the film. While it's a subject that I almost always enjoy, something didn't sit right with me here. The opening on the beach or the fight in the hotel were decent and that's about it. I didn’t like the sound, how many times you couldn't hear the bang, even two cars crashing made almost no sound, which was very strange. The R-rating could have been exploited more and young Dylan O'Brien might be more suited a role like this five years from now. Fine for one viewing, but rather average in terms of action. I liked Ethan Hawke's 24 Hours to Live better. 60%.

Geostorm (2017)

Englisch Judging by the generic trailers, I didn't expect Geostorm to be decent entertainment after all, and given that it's a debut with I won't skimp the rating. Gerard Butler is great and does a decent job of talking throughout the film. There could have been more destruction but it was very good. Hong Kong was the longest and then a few smaller ones but each time in an interesting location (Moscow, Dubai, Mumbai, Florida). The storyline is different than I expected, so thumbs up for that too. I was not bored for a moment, satisfaction. I liked it more than Into the Storm.75%

Island of the Condemned (2008)

Englisch A solid kill-or-be-killed style film. With prisons bursting at the seams, two hundred Russian prisoners are sent to an island to survive without any security supervision, but as usual, they soon split into two groups and a gritty Russian spectacle ensues. There's no shortage of decent acting, likeable main characters, and badass villains, a decent dose of violence, cannibalism, and enough suspense and action to keep you on your toes. Yeah, I like these movies. The finale is awesome. 80%.
