After The Witch, Robert Eggers directs another period and psychologically challenging piece, this time in black and white and square format, making it feel like it was made in 1910. that initially repulsed me, but eventually I found myself immersed in the plot and enjoying the nightmare driven to madness. Both Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson give great performances, the dialogue is impressive, the atmosphere thickens and there are a few disturbing scenes (a seagull being bludgeoned to death, a live burial, masturbation over a mermaid and the final scene is very raw). Here I can understand 10 stars and 0, so it depends on you, but I was not bored. 7/10.

I watched it more out of obligation, but otherwise it's a pointless sequel with nothing to impress. The humour is missing, “Let it Go” is not replaced and the only thing that is good are the visuals, but that is par for the course. Fine for kids, nothing for adults. 5/10.

An excellent chilling drama from Russia with a cramped atmosphere. The story revolves around a heating repairman who, while inspecting an apartment, discovers that the apartment block is on the verge of collapse. There is not much time left and he decides to take action and confront local political corruption. An uncomfortable, almost Chernobyl-like atmosphere about an honest man who wants to save 800 lives, but since the prefab is full of social scum, the government is full of communists, and money is king, it won't be easy. A thunderous finale. 8/10.

This is great! The president ordered the shooting of civilians during a demonstration and about a thousand die. 26 years later, a few children of their children decide to take revenge and plan an assassination attempt on the president, but things don't go as planned. The final 30 minute sequence is suspenseful as hell and it's exactly the South Korea I love. Great visuals, decent action, a well chosen revenge team. It was fun. 8/10.

Very nice surprise!! Simple and straightforward, but authentic, uncomfortable, harsh and at the same time very entertaining. The film is more or less about police corruption and drug dealers going after one honest rookie, Naomie Harris, who is alone against everyone. Frank Grillo as the bad guy is awesome, the shootouts are raw and the squalor of New Orleans is captured believably. A movie full of bad guys. 7.5/10.

Taika Waititi has made his best film and his style is very close to Tarantino's. A very original war satire with a strong story, tasteful humour, engaging dialogue, great performances (Scarlett Johansson deserves an Oscar, but I also like Sam Rockwell, Taika Waititi as Hitler and the small and clever Roman Griffin Davis). The biggest highlights are the training of the young Nazis, the visit to the Gestapo and the finale. The film manages to surprise several times, keeps a decent pace and the humour is occasionally replaced by a cold shower. 8/10.

The acting is first class, led by the perfect Joel Kinnaman and the delightful Ana de Armas, but Clive Owen, Common and Rosamund Pike are also good. It's a shame that the story brings nothing new to the table and the prison is only there for 30 minutes at most, but I still had a decent time. 6.5/10.

I wasn't too impressed. Willem Dafoe tries hard and the dogs look beautiful, but otherwise it is an average adventure film where you travel from A to B and nothing much interesting happens during the journey. It lacks suspense and gripping scenes and is unfortunately not very entertaining either, too bad the film is a Disney production, maybe with R-rating rating it could have been a raw and cool ride. 5/10

I am not a fan of Start Wars, but I have to say that I'm happy with The Mandalorian. Pedro Pascal's voice has charm, Gina Carano is acting for the first time in a while, baby Yoda is cute and I enjoyed the IG droid. It has nice visuals, a decent amount of decent action and each episode is about something different so the series doesn't get boring and keeps a nice pace. Hardcore SW fans will probably be drooling with bliss and I at least had a nice 8 weeks of enjoyment. 8/10.

Before the end of the year, Netflix awarded us another series of the year event (and there were a hell of a lot of them this year!) and while I have minor reservations, it's definitely a spectacular fantasy extravaganza and the new successor to Game of Thrones. I'm not a connoisseur of the books and I've never played the game so, I'm unfamiliar with the sources and I agree that the plot is convoluted and at times confusing (especially the flashbacks, which don't feel like flashbacks and detracted from the experience a bit), but the rest of it is without reservation. Henry Cavill as Geralt is excellent, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer is almost perfect, and I enjoyed Marigold, who puts a smile on my face with her singing. The action is very captivating (the duel with the Striga is nicely horrific), although there could have been definitely more monsters. The fights with humans have fine cinematography and the brutality is spot on. The atmosphere is properly fantasy historical, and I like that Mages, Elves, Dryads and similar groups are featured. I really enjoyed the series and it's probably because I have a soft spot for such unknown worlds. I hope that with more seasons the story will become more coherent and make more sense. 8/10.
